Detroit Lions Re-Sign Kicker Michael Badgley on One-Year Contract

The Detroit Lions have announced the re-signing of kicker Michael Badgley on a one-year contract, according to his agent. The details of the contract have not yet been disclosed.
UPDATE: The Lions have officially confirmed the signing.
Badgley has been a part of the Lions roster for the past two years, initially joining the team as a member of the practice squad in 2022. He was later promoted to the active roster and had a successful season, making 20 out of 24 field goals in the final 12 games.
In 2023, the Lions brought in several competitors to challenge for the starting kicker position, including Riley Patterson and John Parker Romo. Badgley was released before the start of training camp but was later signed back to the practice squad at the beginning of the season.
Although Patterson initially started as the team's kicker for the 2023 season, Badgley eventually won back the job in the middle of the season. Special teams coordinator Dave Fipp explained that Badgley had been performing better over a six-week period, leading to the decision to give him a fair opportunity.
Badgley proved his worth by making all four of his field goal attempts and 13 out of 15 extra points in the regular season. He also had a perfect record in the playoffs, making three out of three field goals, including a crucial 54-yard field goal in the Lions' Wild Card win against the Los Angeles Rams.
Despite bringing back Badgley, the Lions may still add more competition at the kicker position for the 2024 season.
