Breaking News: NBC Drops Jac Collinsworth as Notre Dame's Play-by-Play Announcer

After serving as NBC’s play-by-play announcer for Notre Dame football for two years, Jac Collinsworth has been replaced, according to sources familiar with the decision.
NBC veteran Dan Hicks will take over for Collinsworth and will be joined by analyst Jason Garrett. Hicks previously called Notre Dame games ten years ago and is most recognized for his work on the PGA Tour.
Starting next season, NBC has announced that Noah Eagle and Todd Blackledge will be the primary broadcast team for all of their college football coverage. The duo received positive reviews for their commentary on Big Ten and NFL games last year.
In an effort to reward Eagle and Blackledge, NBC has also decided that if a Notre Dame game is deemed the most attractive on their schedule for a given week, they will be the ones to call it.
NBC declined to comment on the decision.
Last year, NBC renewed their contract as the broadcast outlet for Notre Dame home games through 2029. The new athletic director for Notre Dame, Pete Bevacqua, was previously the chairman of NBC Sports.
Collinsworth, the son of NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” analyst Cris Collinsworth, was chosen for the role by the network’s executive producer, Sam Flood, despite having limited experience as a play-by-play announcer. From the beginning, Collinsworth received criticism for his performance and was under extra scrutiny due to his last name. The 29-year-old graduated from Notre Dame in 2017.
However, NBC still values Collinsworth’s work as a reporter on “Football Night in America” and the Olympics. He will continue to call college football and basketball games on the network’s streaming service, Peacock, where he can continue to improve his skills.
